Wood Group - Accident and Emergency Workshop

Wood GroupThis event was specially designed to give the team at Wood Group an experiential experience with accident and emergency at the forefront.

The morning opened with a visit from Sir Ian Wood himself and after a tour of the workshop Team Challenge Company introduced the day, what we didnt tell the team was that we had an accident simultaion in four seperate parts of the building for them to deal with.

Wood GroupStage two began when the fire alarm went off, normal evacuation proceedures took place and after doing a head count at the muster point we were approached by four people how were distressed and in need of help.  The group split into four pre selected teams and headed towards the incident areas.

After 40 minutes of dealing with the casualities and the accident site excerise 1 was over.  The teams grouped together to share experiences and many were over whelmed by the realistic and terrifying sights they had been faced with.

Throughout the day each team got the opportunity to take part in four accident and Wood Groupemergency incidents namely, Environmental Spill, Car Accident, Evacuation and Machinery Accident.  The focus wasn't on what the manual says you must do but on experiencing it first hand and the panic that comes with it then apadting yourself to make a difference.

After lunch we had the final challenge for each team and something amazing happened, the teams joined forces and successfully sealed off the entire building and each individual incident became one and all teams working together.  They had all casualties safe and kept members fo the public safe by closing down the entire area.  They had no longer been affected by the accidents and took a well practiced and detail approach something that only real practice can give you.

Wood GroupDuring the debrief many great comments and suggestions came which were documented and a further focus group will implement those that are practical and can make a difference.

Well done to everyone who took part in the Emergency Day. The team work and comminications skills shown on the day were of excellent standard. Myself being a casuality on the day was made to feel very comfortable and in safe hands. Although a stressful day for all participants, from the feedback provided, it has proved to be an event well worth doing.

A great learning opportunity for all at Wood Group as they applied and developed their first aid, medical and accident rescue knowledge to a variety of scenarios in and around the work place. It was challenging for everyone to work together under often difficult and changing circumstances and the teams were rewarded with huge satisfaction at the group de-briefs knowing that all their efforts had prepared them well in the future for so many potentially life threatening situations. Excellent training day with a great team at Wood Group.

A great honour to work with you all.
