21st April and we travelled to Piperdam to meet a group from Edinburgh University, the message for the morning was Team Building and getting a better understanding of each others skills and to have some fun together.
Upon walking through the door the group looked so nervous, we eased their anxieties by starting off with why they wished to hold such and event, slowly they started to come to life and by the time we had finished the great Team Building Game Helium Stick they were pumped for the day of team building.
The group and ourselves headed outside and with a chilly wind coming across the pond we were all wrapped up, Sue delayed things slightly by running back to her car, for another pair of socks !!!
The two teams went head to head on their second Team building Game plankwalk, all was going swimmingly until Team Achievers and Team Charlie's Angels met in the middle. After some negotiation between the teams common ground was found and they passed each other without further incident until Bill decided to try and have the last word by standing on the opposing teams plank making sure they couldn't win but ruling victory out for his team also. A further discussion took place that turned into what can only be described as a scuffle leaving Bill scrambling for his plank....
Moving inside teams took part in their next team building game NASA Challenge and with Paul looking for cheating opportunities we had to keep a close eye, our only saving grace was Nasa had the final say.
After plenty of tea and biscuits we wrapped up again and headed out for our final two Team Building activities starting first with Rollerball. This task is as much a planning challenge as it is a doing challenge and with two different approaches teams found it difficult to formulate their plans. The Achievers showed early signs of doing well but time slipped by so fast for them, then out of nowhere it seemed they had it cracked and posted a time of 36.8 seconds. Charlie's Angels team ran into communication challenges and by the time they got it sorted time was almost up leaving them a time of 26.21 seconds, they knew they could have won and it inspired them to work better on the final Team Building Activity Catapult.
12.30pm we all headed back inside for a de-brief and presentation of prizes, the winner's trophy was separated by only 100 points and it went to the dynamic 5 piece The Achievers, they proved that consistent performance and learning brings results.
Well done to all who took part and a special mention to Tess for organising this Team Building event for the team, we certainly look forward to challenging your team again and to find out if Paul's competitiveness has increased in intensity..hehe.
Achievers was made up of Paul, Bill, Stuart, Matt and Linda
Charlie's Angels was made up of Tess, Sue, Lynn and Pol
A very great pleasure to work with Edinburgh University at the beautiful surroundings of Piperdam. The wind was no distraction to the teams effort throughout the day and as the sun broke out it was great to see such healthy competition as the event progressed and all stepped up to the challenge. With the very best in teamworking being brought out - hey even Paul eventually stopped trying to cheat !
Hope the photographs remind you of a wonderful stay and event at Piperdam
and we hope to see you all there again soon.
Stephen
Thanks to the guys for a great day. We learnt what working as a team was all about and had good fun doing it.
