Teams construct a life-sized Formula 1 race car and race to the finish line in the grand finale
How It Works
Using a ‘flat-pack’ kit of materials and some detailed prints, team’s race against the clock to construct an almost life-size Formula One racing car. Once the construction process is complete, teams design, decorate and brand their Formula 1 car and come up with a race strategy. Finally the Grand Prix moment arrives and teams line their cars at the start line. As the chequered flag waves up high, they race their Formula 1 cars in a relay to win!
Learning Outcomes
Excellent communication skills, efficiency and resourcefulness amongst the team are required to turn a flat pack of materials into a formula 1 racing car. By working in sub-teams and having a good understanding of the end goal, this complex project can be broken down to keep the whole team working effectively and efficiently to complete the construction and design process within the given time frame. Creativity is vital to turn these cars into racing machines and enable them to look the part. Finally, effective strategic planning and delegation of roles will lead teams to a successful race.
