The Baker Tilly World Series of Poker 2015 was hosted at the stunning Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh as employees and guests from Baker Tilly were welcomed to an evening of fun and competition in the form of our no limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament.

The evening began with a drinks reception and welcome from Partner and Host Alex Tait before our Tournament Director stepped up to kick off the evening with a bang.

After introducing the professional croupiers, it was time to take to the tables for a demonstration hand giving the beginners an opportunity to learn and the more experience players an opportunity to perfect that poker face.

As betting got underway there were several big winners with Deborah and Shirley taking an early lead on the tables as Murray and Ian became the first pair to leave the competition, although after being awarded a half stack of chips they returned to their table to offer (bad!) advice to the others. Ian Craig was later called upon to collect his prize of the Wooden Spoon and a bottle of Prosecco for the earliest departure and being such a good sport.

Following a wonderful buffet and networking opportunity it was straight back to the tables as the blinds increased and betting suddenly got serious. With players being knocked out thick and fast, two Blackjack tables were quickly opened to provide some entertainment for those who were knocked out and there was certainly a lot of competition on these tables too, so much so that Brendan Walsh took home a bottle of whiskey as the biggest winner on the table making £270 from an initial stake of £20.

The final of the poker saw 6 players face off for the top spot and in the end the leader board looked like this: 6th Place – Martin Hensmen, 5th Place - Paul Dounas, 4th Place – Deborah Louden, 3rd Place - Steven Jansch, 2nd Place - Bob Millar and in 1st Place claiming the coveted Baker Tilly World Series of Poker 2015 trophy and bottle of whiskey was the incredible Nick Elder! Congratulations to all winners on the night, thank you to everyone for coming along to make the evening so memorable, and of course thank you to Alex and the rest of his team for organising the entertainment. It was our pleasure to host such an incredible group of people and we look forward to the rematch in 2016!

Congratulations to Ian for his well deserved Wooden Spoon and apologies for my winning streak on the Blackjack - just goes to show the dealer always wins, haha! It was a pleasure to be a part of such a fun-filled evening and to see everyone get so competitive on the tables and a big thanks to Alex for inviting us along.
