Sunday saw us team up with Clan Cancer Support Charity for the second year in succession at what promised to be a spectacular and monumental occasion. It was that time of year again. The Clan Charity Walk around Aberdeen with Team Challenge Company corporate entertainment. Walkers had two different routes to choose from, a 13 mile or 7 mile respectively. The routes would bypass all of the major sights and points of interest in and around Aberdeen City. Each walker safe in the knowledge that their outstanding efforts would help raise money and awareness of this fantastic charity. Clan Cancer Support provides assistance to everyone from any walk of life who has ever been affected by Cancer in any kind of way. Over 450 people would take to the streets at regular intervals throughout the morning to complete their walk. Spreading the message of Clan along their way. Aberdeenshire Lord Provost was the very special guest and had the pleasure of opening the walk. The honour was also spread among Team Challenge Company mascot Denver the Dog and Clancy the Clan mascot who made some eye catching moves in an impromptu dance off just before the off. The robot, the shuffle and twist were all incorporated as many looked on in sheer wonder and amazement. A fantastic way to kick things off.

The corporate fun day also required over 300 marshals spread across the walking routes who so generously parted with their time on what was a beautiful Sunday morning. As the bagpipes sounded, echoing vibrantly around Westburn Park, the first walkers passed through the iconic Start Gantry. They were armed with a sticker collection book, collecting momentos from certain places around the route. Slot 1 were ready. Some warming up some with the look of dread plastered across their uncertain and worried faces. For some a gruelling task awaited. And they're off. Slot 1 off and running. Well, walking! In the mean time our event village entertained the masses which included later scheduled slots warming up on the iconic 50ft assault course, local kids having the best of times on our largest Bouncy Castle Slide combo, the towering Denver’s Den. Wannabe wave riders tackling the hilarious Surf Simulator and the Tea Cups for the younger ones. The Event Village also included a number of stalls where Clan volunteers had been up bright and early to set out. Information tents, food and beverage gazebos and fundraising tents dominated the north bank of the village. There was even a chance to win a Mini Cooper for just a £1 raffle ticket entry prize. Needless to say it was very popular! At that price who could argue?? Consequent slots followed on and started their respective walks around Aberdeen.

Speaking to everyone who just wanted to do their bit and raise as much money and awareness as they could. Some training for marathons in the long term and some walking this distance for the very first time! Everyone united in order to achieve one common goal. A beautiful way to continue the fight against cancer. So poignant and humbling to see as many people on a Sunday afternoon doing what they could! Before we knew it all ten slots had left the starting gates. Cheered on by volunteers and one another, there was certainly a buzz in the air. An atmosphere of joy, faith and hope. Event village saw the surf record stand at a massive 2 minutes and the quickest assault course crawl at 11 seconds. Everyone really enjoying such a special day. The walkers started to return. One by one at first and then in increasingly larger groups. Some red in the face, some willing to do another lap! Walkers as old as 76 took part and as young as 10. Asda at the beach even donned pink converse for their walk! Many were dressed in the iconic Clan purple as well as wigs, hats, scarfs and even kilts. Canines also took part with their brave owners. An outstanding day for an extremely worthwhile cause.

One note to leave this on would be the story of team Amanda who I think may stay in our thoughts for a long time. Amanda was sadly taken by cancer from her loving husband and two sons a shirt while back. They completed the 13 miles in her honour and her memory. At the finish line dad pressed his forehead against that of his two sons and said a simple thank you. The image resonates with anyone who has ever been affected by this terrible disease. Quite a remarkable, moving and poignant moment. Well done to all the volunteers and walkers and everyone who made this day such a success. Thank you for the memories. The fight continues... Thank you so much for everyone at CLAN Cancer Support for such a fantastic day. We were honoured to be part of this and a huge thank you to Steph and the team for their efforts organising this event.
