The beautiful Ardoe House Hotel was host to a day of team building days with a twist. Team Challenge Company met with a group of 80 BP Exploration employees for our exciting Soapbox Derby event. The weather looked grim on arrival so it was a good job the first half of the day was indoor based. Our teams were given the task of creating a business plan to support the racing team they were now a part of. The teams had to work together to create a Logo, Team Moto and a number of core values that their team would strive to promote. Green Lighting went for the environmentally friendly and energy efficient values which caught our sponsors eye! Once this had been complete the teams then pitched their business plan to our panel of sponsors in order to gain points which would affect their final racing position. Team Eat My Dust had an incredibly funny presentation which played in their favour. Vivachis presentation gave the room an energetic burst with their performance!

After the presentations, our teams were handed the task of designing and building their Soapbox Race Cart. They were given set materials to use and once again there was a strict criteria to follow. Some of the carts looked phenomenal and a whole lot of time and effort went into building the outer structure. Taken into account was the creativity, quality and design of the carts. Team 1Ts massive spoiler may have looked amazing, but Team Catalina's minimal, sleek design would allow for optimal streamline. The final part of the day seen out guests for BP take to the track with their home built Soapbox Derby carts. Heads turned as we made our way out of Ardoe House Hotel’s car park onto the front lawn. Before we kicked off the race Torro Rosso managed to break their chain! Our inside mechanic managed to step in and make the cart race ready in no time. The heats were very intense as every team was pushing to achieve pole position in the final race. There were a few bumps and un-sportsman like manoeuvres (Steve from Team Taladaga's, Fred Flintstone impression at the pit stop is a perfect example) as they pushed their carts to the limit. The final race was slippery and intense! Our 4 final carts battled it out for the Team Challenge Company Winner’s Trophy!

At the end of the team building day as our teams dried off and warmed up we calculated the final scores and added up the points. In last place with a still respectable score of 100 in the racing were The Flying Falcons who walked off with the Wooden Spoon! In third place was the ever high spirited Eat My Dust. Team Catalina made a fantastic effort taking their small team to second place! In first place, taking home the Team Challenge Trophy - beating off Vivaci due to a racing fault! - was the incredible performing. Atlantic Thunder! All in all the day was a huge success and I'd once again like to thank Helen and Steve for their part in organising such a great day. I hope to see some of you out on the race track soon!
