Flat Out: Formula 1

In this project management task, teams are given an F1 car blueprint and must skillfully manage time and resources to construct and race their creation.

How it works

Given detailed plans and a flat-pack kit of materials, teams race against time to construct an almost life-size Formula One racing car. Once complete, they decorate and brand their construction while formulating their winning race strategy.

Finally, the Grand Prix moment arrives, and teams line up their cars on the starting grid. As the chequered flag flies, they race in an exciting relay to take home the winner’s trophy.

Teamwork, resourcefulness, and strong communication skills are required to turn the given materials into a winning Formula One car. A good understanding of the end goal, plus forming sub-teams to keep the whole team working effectively, is the only way to successfully complete this task. Not to mention the creativity and innovative thinking required to decorate and brand the car.

Teams will quickly recognise that effective strategic planning and allocation of roles will help lead to a successful race.

Learning Outcomes


Flexing your creative muscles is an ingeniously fun way of improving your problem-solving skills. These skills can make a big difference to how teams approach their day to day, back in the workplace. Our creative experiences allow participants to explore within themselves and collaboratively as teams. Ultimately, these experiences are massively rewarding.


Improving collaboration across a team is probably the number one way we can help to improve a team’s performance. If you don’t communicate, you can’t collaborate. We start with communication and get it flowing, then get everyone working together. We have found that creating long-term change in the way teams collaborate can be as simple as getting them into a creative frame of mind. Whether the team task is to work together or compete is up to you.

Choosing from our range of fun and social experiences is sometimes all it takes to get teams working together in new and more effective ways. These light and engaging experiences are great for energising a team or warming up conference delegates. They can help familiarise new team members or get well-acquainted ones working in innovative ways.


Our experiences to identify and bring out leadership qualities revolve around either creative and collaborative practices or competitive challenges. These tried and tested techniques delve deep into team dynamics and how individuals respond to them. We have also developed a core set of highly effective interactive business games. Our interactive games mimic real-world scenarios but with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure.
