Highland Games with Cevian Capital

The Gleneagles hotel is a historic location in Scotland, steeped in history; it is one of the most iconic locations in this beautiful country. So what a fitting location for Team Challenge Company to host a Highland Games on their annual trip to Scotland!

The weather was unfortunately not in our favour at the dawn of the events, and proceeded to whip our guests with lashings of rain and wind for the duration of the games. Thankfully, this did not diminish the enjoyment for our games. Our six teams were excited to get started on the competitions and were eager to show each other that they were the unquestioned victors of these games!

After a quick naming ceremony, we had our teams; Green Dragons, Pink Panthers, Bloody Blue Bravehearts, The Four Oranges, Yellow Fellows and the Pink Highlanders. The TCC team had organised rotations so all the teams could compete against each other and the best scores in each event would count towards the overall team scores.

At our Caber Toss event, after a quick instruction on how to throw the cabers safely, the competition began! Points were awarded for how straight the caber landed and if the form of the toss was correct, with extra points for using our largest caber. After several amazing showings, including one of our lady guests tossing our largest caber for maximum points, the Bloody Blue Bravehearts were declared the winner of this game, giving them an early lead in the standings.

Our Welly Toss is similar in throwing style to the Weight Over Bar event in a full Highland Games. But instead of expecting our guests to be able to throw a 100kg weight over their own head, teams are awarded points for tossing a Welly accurately into scored hoops. This game was one of our team favourites, and although some teams were not particularly lucky (looking at you, Yellow Fellows!) the Bloody Blue Bravehearts snatched the victory from the Pink Panthers!

The Stone Lift is a true test of strength and endurance from each individual team member. One by one, our team members would hold a basket at chest height. Every 5 seconds, a Stone was dropped into the basket. The longest time after all members had tried was awarded the winner. With a hugely impressive time of nearly two minutes, one of the gentlemen from the Pink Highlanders was declared the winner, securing points for his team.

The Tug of War is an ancient game of teamwork and stoicism. As each of our teams took their places on either end of the rope, it was clear that tensions were running high - each team wanted to win so badly! After some complaining about slopes, ropes and threatened disqualification for pulling before the call, the Green Dragons, Pink Panthers and Bloody Blue Bravehearts won their respective rounds. All was held in good jest, and this particular round will be remembered for a long time we are sure!

Our Hey You Jimmy relay race is one of our client’s favourite attractions, as it is a laugh filled, fun game where everyone gets to blow off some steam and get a bit silly! Our Off Piste guests were no exception - they loved all of our themes and through the hard fought rounds, the Green Dragons edged the victory.

Fishing is an important part of Scotland's industry and recreation, so our Fly Casting competition incorporates that into a team relay. Players cast their line into scored hoops to gain maximum points, and then have to pass the rod onto the next player. The Bloody Blue Bravehearts again sailed to victory, just over the Four Oranges.

Our final event was the Haggis Hurling. After a few incredulous looks, the games got underway! Players bowled Haggis into scored hoops and bowled them back to their teammates for the next player to attempt the furthest away Golden Hoop, worth extra points. Our extremely strong Pink Panthers were only beaten by Pink Highlanders.

So as the teams got a few commemorating photos, the scores were tallied, checked and counted. Earning our infamous Wooden Spoon were the Yellow Fellows, who claimed that they were aiming for this booby prize! To no-one’s surprise, our Bloody Blue Bravehearts were our overall victors, but only beating the Pink Panthers and the Pink Highlanders by three hundred and fifty points, respectively.

Team Challenge Company had a wonderful time with our guests and players, and we would love to welcome Off Piste back again next year!
