A group of delegates from The Coal Authority gathered eagerly at The Bestwood Lodge Hotel ready for a day of fun team building provided by Team Challenge Company in the form of our Pressure Zone Event. The group split into 3 teams and after a few team transfers, were introduced to the Team Challenge Company Winner’s Trophy and of course the dreaded Loser’s Wooden Spoon!

With each team having been given their life cards (and a quick reminder that the fun money could not be taken to the bar) it was time to kick off the day with our Flop It warm up challenge. Each person had a chance to throw the bean bag in an attempt to land it on the glass platform at the top of the pole – with only a few disasters, some of our teams even managed to win themselves some cash!  Moving on throughout the day, the teams took part in various challenges including our highly frustrating Bounce and In challenge, where the teams literally had to bounce a football sized ball into a tube... they certainly got the chance to see that it’s definitely not as easy as it sounds!  Other challenges included Index, where the teams had to move the ball along the glass panel using only one finger and if the ball falls off the glass then the team loses a life!

After the first rotation of challenges and everyone had been given a chance to earn their first chunk of money or, for some, lose a few of their lives... it was time to have a quick tea and coffee break. Once the teams were suitably refreshed and ready to get back to the competition, it was time for our second altogether challenge of the day - Hole In One. This challenge saw the teams stepping up to roll the ball along the platform aiming for the target hole at the end... with a few impressive shots and a good laugh at the bad ones, it definitely got the teams amped up and ready to go into their second set of activities! The second set of activities included Hurdle, Step Up and Descent. Our Step Up challenge was all about testing balance as the team members took it in turn to Step Up onto our specially designed ledge and hold their position for as long as possible.

Descent had the teams doing some quick moving as they dropped the ball into the tube with one hand at the top and aimed to catch it using the same hand at the bottom... the only problem is knowing when and how fast the ball will come out the other end – and being able to actually catch it, of course! The final challenge in this set of rotations was Hurdle, which saw the teams blindly trying to make their way over the hurdle obstacle while wearing a mask. Some players were impressive as they took part in this challenge and some definitely provided a few giggles for everyone else! The final challenge of the day was yet another altogether task in the form of our Tier Drop challenge, which asked the teams to bounce a ball on one platform with the aim of it bouncing off of another and right into the tube at the final spot. This one proved hugely difficult with only 1 person from each team managing to earn that last bit of money!

With all the challenges complete, money won and lives counted it was time to reveal the scores! In Last Place and taking home the Loser’s Wooden Spoon was team... 1 Direction! In Second Place and taking home nothing but memories was team... All 2gether! Our Winner’s in First Place and taking home the Team Challenge Company Winner’s Trophy was... team 3s A Crowd!

Well done to everyone who took part and a huge thank you and well done to Mandie and the organisers for arranging such a great day! Our team had a fantastic time working with you all and hope you all enjoyed it just as much as us! We look forward to seeing you all again soon!
